There are a lot of choices out there.
What's the best smoke alarm to use in your home?
But I personally rate the Voltex Photoelectric Alarm. It’s fully compliant and has a 10 year lithium battery.

Once I’ve installed one of these, certified it, and sent the reports off, then you’re good to go for sale or rental. Zero hassle.
A few handy features:
(1) You don’t want a big bulky thing hanging off your ceiling. These are handsome, tidy, and solid enough to do the job.
(2) The big button on the front makes it easy to test and hush without having to climb up and down a ladder.

(3) Up to 40 alarms can all be interconnected wirelessly within 100 metres of each other. This means that if one goes off then they all do. And after all has gone quiet again you’ll be able to identify the alarm which triggered first by its flashing LED.

Before I put them up, I run a quick chirp test to confirm it’s all good.

Don’t drill. You’ll strip it. Attach the mount with wall dogs (smart screws) and you’re done.
The staff at Voltext are great guys, they all communicate well and are easy to deal with. They try to make things easy for me, the electrician.
Also comes with a 7-year replacement warranty, which I’ve never had to use.
